The patient is a 58-year-old married white woman,referred by her primary care physician because hefelt that her skin rashes were very likely caused by anxiety.He had recently started her on alprazolam (Xanax) 0.5mg/day. She has had no previous psychiatric treatment.Her other medical problems include hypercholesterolemia,glaucoma, hypothyroidism, and leg pain. Prescribedmedications were conjugated estrogen (Premarin) andlevothyroxine (Synthroid), in addition to alprazolam.
