Sir: Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) areknown to inhibit specific human hepatic cytochrome P450(CYP) isoenzymes, which are critical in the metabolism of mostmedications. Paroxetine is thought to possess highly potentinhibiting properties for the CYP2D6 isoenzyme. CYP2D6 isthe major enzyme involved in catabolism of many commonlyused agents, including neuroleptics, antidepressants, Type ICantiarrhythmics, codeine, ן-blockers, and dextromethorphan.
