A Concise Guide to Psychodynamic Psychotherapy soundslike an impossible dream. However, the authors have managed toconstruct a volume of less than 250 small pages that is well written,easy to translate into useful and important clinical activity,and reasonably well referenced.

Among the many positive facets of the book are the provisionof practical guiding principles for evaluation of psychotherapy(Chapter 3), a rich description of psychodynamic listening especiallyhelpful to developing an approach to the particular activitiesinvolved in this process (Chapter 4), and defining theelements of a psychodynamic evaluation/formulation and howthose elements will be put to use (Chapter 6).’ ‹
